Great Advice and Reader Friendly, Could Be a Course on Leadership

Here is a leader who has been in the trenches and shares what works and what doesn't. As evidenced by his history of successful leadership roles in an impressive variety of companies, spanning the full range of economic conditions, Ruprecht's approach to getting things done is honest and straightforward. He knows that a leader is not there to replicate the status quo even when they may be the very person who gave the quo its status. A Thoughtful, Pragmatic, Sometimes Irreverent Look At What It Takes To Successfully Lead

Windward Leadership is a thoughtful, pragmatic, sometimes irreverent look at what it takes to successfully lead an organization through change. Ruprecht has synthesized leading organizational theories and thinking from his experience implementing them. It's a book that provides guidance where the rubber meets the road-and is indispensable for those who are charged with implementing and leading change efforts. He demonstrates what it takes to be successful, and not from a lofty theoretical perspective, but from someone who's been there and lived it.

Excellent Book!

I have read countless books on leadership and organizational change throughout the course of completing my MBA as well as a 20-year career in IT, Product Development, and Marketing. "Windward Leadership" ranks as one of the very best! This book is so relevant—especially in light of our current economic situation and the debacles of so many high-profile leaders.

Some books offer practices and Pollyanna-ish views that are so unrealistic as to be merely an insult to the reader's intelligence. Others offer such theoretical perspectives as to be unclear or impossible to reduce to practice. Not this book. This book engaged me right from the beginning. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on "Self." The disparate references and examples used throughout that draw upon history, military, government, person family anecdotes, as well as business made the book really interesting. The author's engaging writing style, obvious breadth and depth of knowledge, and sense of humor makes the book as fun to read as it is compelling.

I wish this book had been available earlier in my career. It would've saved me a lot of time and energy learning things on my own, the hard way.

A Field Guide for Organizational Leadership and Change

Ruprecht has done an outstanding job in creating a blueprint for leading organizations through change. Using theories and examples from psychology, history and business, Jim outlines a number of techniques that can benefit leaders of all organizations and experience-levels. While I had been exposed to some of the theories before, Jim did an excellent job of bringing them together with examples that drove home their importance to the organizational change process. The book is organized in a way that makes it an excellent reference for those of us taking our organizations into the "prevailing winds" and fighting the "political seas".
